Passed!

Well, I passed everything!
That was exciting! I will never take 5 courses again at the same time!
Oi! lol
I am finding it difficult to get into my courses this semester. I think it is because I had to push myself so much in the last one, that I am finding it hard to motivate myself. I am bored I think. Again, not that I will ever do 5 courses again though! lol

I am also a bit concerned about my placements. I thought that my job would count as one, but it sounds like I might only get a reduction in hours, not an exemption. I don't know what to do. I really didn't want to have to use my vacation days to get a placement, let alone 2 years worth of vacation for 2 placements.
I really don't know what to do.

I guess I should work on my assignment that is due tonight.

Almost done Fall'08!

Well, this has been a tricky semester. I started it with lots of enthusiasm. I knew I could do it! Five courses? Piece of cake!
Boy, they sure showed me huh?
I am passing everything. I am getting everything done, but I am tired, and burnt out. I have one take home exam due Friday, I have a written exam at Humber on Wednesday, and my final exam at Mohawk (for this semester at least) on Saturday.
Then I get to relax until January 9th. That's when it all starts again!
Next semester I am taking a Human Resourses course (should come in handy, with me being the student supervisor right now) and I am taking Information Work II. Basically it is a course to teach me what I will be doing at the reference desk - teaching me how to do reference, answer their questions (and I know there is more to it, since there is 3 courses dedicated to this!)
Anyways, off to study for my Wed exam!

Been a while

So, it has been a while since I updated this.
I have made my completed courses a sticky post, so it will always be at the top.
Now, onto my courses...
I am taking....*gasp*....5 this semester.
Some are easy-ish...some are hard-ish.
I am enjoying some of them, some of them I don't understand why a library technician would be taking them.
Ultimately, I am passing everything, so that is really all that matters.
If everything goes as planned (which, might not happen), I should *cross your fingers* be done at the end up next semester.
That would involve me doing 4 courses in the winter semester, and 4 plus a placement in the summer.
I am excited about getting this done!

Semester Done

Well, I have completed all of my assignments for this semester. I just need to get my official grades and then I can get my money back (woohoo!! Tuition assistance!).
Now, I need to figure out what I will be taking in the fall semester.

Gaming

I don't do much gaming on the computer. We have a wii, ps2, etc and I do play some of those, but I am definitely more of a reader/watcher. I love watching R play video games. I can sit for hours just watching.

HOWEVER.

R and I play D&D *cough* geek* cough*.
Yes, RPG's.
The problem we are finding is that everyone is moving away and/or can't find the time to get together for the traditional marathon sessions we would play.
This being the case, we have discovered some interesting products that will hopefully allow us to overcome this and play online.
Wizards (the creators of D&D) have created a D&D Game Table it hasn't been released as of yet, but we are excited (and if you search for virtual table or game table and d&d, you will find some others, some free). This will allow us to play at home in front of our computers. My understanding of this is that we will all see the same screen. Everyone will see everyone's roles of dice. We can create our characters and see where they are standing in the room.
With this, we should be able to play a couple of hours every week, rather than once a month (if even that). We can include people who don't live anywhere around us. AVM wants to play, and we can have her bf from Seattle join in as well.
I can't wait.

I guess I didn't really talk about what I thought of Second Life, but oh well :)

What I am learning at work :D

What have we been learning?
- Well, we created a facebook account (which I already had - ask if you would like it)
- We created a flickr account (which I already had...sensing a pattern?)
- I created a Twitter account - I didn't have, but am starting to get into it.
- We learned about Viral Videos - those really popular videos that you end up getting sent about 5 copies of in one day?
- DEL.ICIO.US ROCKS! This is amazing. Who would have thought that I would get excited about bookmarks? And sharing bookmarks with friends? My friend wants to come with me to Stitch n Pitch when she saw that I bookmarked it. I hope I can get to it!

We have a few more sessions this summer, one I joined as soon as I learned about. LibraryElf is a tool that allows you to put your library card and pin into the site and the site will remind you when your books are due, or your holds are available. What makes this great is that you can put more than one barcode. So, say you have 5 kids, each with their own library card? See where I am going with this? Yeah, you can put them all into one LibraryElf account and be able to monitor all of their accounts and avoid MAJOR fines!

I'll keep you updated with what we are learning.
OH!! Have you seen these videos? So good!
CommonCraft explains new technologies and how they work "in plain english"! Go check them out.
